Sonoff Cam Slim Wireless Indoor Camera
The Sonoff Cam Slim indoor IP camera is perfect for discreet indoor monitoring. This works great as a baby monitor or a pet cam and can be place nearly anywhere with ease due to its small form factor.
The camera itself is very small and compact and comes with a stand which has been very well designed. The base can be removed if desired but if used it gives the camera the ability to stand up freely on a flat surface or it can be mounted to a wall if the bottom plate is removed and mounted using screws. The final option allows the base to be magnetically fixed to a metal surface, like a fridge or cabinet. This is a great option for renters as it leaves no trace of the camera when removed.
The camera housing is neat and compact utilising USB-C for power which is a refreshing change from the micro USB what is usually provided for IP cameras. A USB-C cable is provided in the box. The cable has a right angle USB C plug which is great for flush mounting the camera to a wall.
The Sonoff Cam Slim also has a micro SD card slot for local recording and infrared lights for night viewing. When viewing the camera feed for the first time I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the stream at night.
The setup process follows the same steps as many other Sonoff devices.
If you need guidance on pairing the device with the app follow the handy guide here.
Once paired the cameras feed can be viewed from within the ewelink app easily. However there is also an option to enable RTSP on the camera which allows the feed to be viewed by DVRs and up camera software such as ISpy and Blue Iris. It's good to see this added as standard to this camera. To learn more about ISpy click here.
The RTSP settings are found under the settings menu for the camera then under "more settings." this menu then gives you all the details you should need in order to setup the RTSP feed. There are several. Other features that are unlocked if the user decided to subscribe to a monthly or annual subscription service. These additional features include:
- 30 day recording history. This is great if you don't have a local or other storage method for your cameras.
- Event detection - allows triggering recording from other sensors in your ewelink app.
- Multi access live view - this allows the user to access the camera feed on Alexa show devices or through the ewelink web application.
When viewing the feed through the ewelink app I was very impressed with the low lag if the stream. The time between movement in front of the camera and that movment being seen in the app was extremely short.
All in all the Sonoff Cam Slim indoor wireless ip camera ticks all the right boxes for an indoor camera with some great extra features as well. It's really good to see a company provide a subscription service as an option rather than a requirement as well. The small form factor and the excellent stream quality makes this camera a winner all round.
