IFTTT

“If This Then That” or IFTTT for short, is a web service that pulls many start home device providers together, The service is free and allows a smart home user to create simple automations known as recipes. In this way users can have simple triggers which cause an action to happen. For instance, you could have an Energenie light switch in your kitchen which is physically connected to the main light in the kitchen but by using IFTTT you could have this switch also turn on your under cabinet lights which are connected to a Sonoff smart socket.

The only limit with automations is your imagination when using IFTTT.

Raspberry Pi and APIs

The Raspberry Pi is a single board computer. These work perfectly as a starting point for the more complex integrations that may not be able to be achieved using other alternatives. The Pi gives you the ultimate flexibility for your smart home and can be used for making commands to APIs. An API is an interface used to control devices in which you can use a command line to issue calls to a specific device. For instance, you could use the Energenie API to turn on a light switch when a button on your website is clicked.

Using a Pi really puts you into the driver’s seat and the possibilities of what can be done are endless.

We have used a few Pi’s in our smart home setup to complete a number of projects. To read more on these projects click the link below.
