When looking to make a home smarter, one of the best ways is to take existing appliances and give them the ability to be integrated with voice assistants. The Broadlink RM4c mini gives the ability to do just that. At its core this tiny little device is a infrared blaster with a WiFi connection but what it let's you do is make dumb electronics, smart. For example, If you have a TV that uses a infrared remote but does not have any sort of smart integrations, you could use one of these devices to turn your TV on through Alexa or from your phone, from the Broadlink app. They can control anything that has a IR remote by emulating buttons being pressed on the remote. As IR can't penetrate walls the RM4c does need to be placed with line of sight of the device or devices you want it to control. Once you have thought the device the button presses you want to emulate its just a case of enabling the Alexa skill and you can see each of the devices you have set up. Being able to control devices using your voice is really helpful especially when you are forever losing the remote down the back of the sofa!

I have a few of these placed around the house controlling a huge number of devices, from LG Projectors and AV Boxes to Air Coolers and Robot Vacuum cleaners so they are extremely flexible with what they are able to control. They make it very easy to extend the functionality of your smart home at a very reasonable price.
